Navajo fair in N.M. draws thousands

MONDAY, OCTOBER 7, 2002 The 79th Shiprock Northern Navajo Fair ended on Saturday, drawing thousands of visitors to experience Navajo culture, arts and dances. The centerpiece of the four-day event was the parade. Despite a change in route to alleviate traffic, cars moved "at a snail's pace" for more than eight hours on Saturday, The Farmington Daily-Times reported. A reported 20,000 people watched the parade. The theme was "United in prayer for world peace" and featured an obligatory appearance by the Navajo Code Talkers. Get the Story:
