Canada might abandon land claim talks

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 8, 2002 The Canadian government is threatening to walk away from land claim negotiations with First Nations because they are taking to long to resolve. Minister of Indian and Northern Affairs Robert Nault said about 30 out of 170 talks haven't progressed. He said the government can pull the plug at any time. Indian leaders say the claims will end up in the court system and the government will pay sooner or later. Get the Story:
