WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 9, 2002 A federal employees' group on Tuesday released a report charging a federal forest manager with neglecting to protect Native artifacts and sites in California. Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility said Los Padres National Forest supervisor Jeanine Derby has also retaliated against employees who speak out. She denies the charges but said she would investigate. A regional official also said the report is being reviewed. The 1.7-million acre forest is ancient home of Chumash, Salinan and Esselen tribes.
