Murkowski slammed for Native history

MONDAY, OCTOBER 14, 2002 The gubernatorial campaign of Frank Murkowski is crying foul over attacks about his ties to an Alaska Native corporation. Murkowski, currently a U.S. senator, was president of a bank that lost millions for Sitnasauk, a village corporation. In 1986, a court awarded the company $10 million for breach of trust. Murkowski blamed the failure on the bank's trust department, which he said was separate from the part he oversaw. His campaign believes Democrats are responsible for the attack. A spokesperson for his opponent, Lt. Gov. Fran Ulmer, met with the corporation but said there was no coordination. Get the Story:
