WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 16, 2002

An extradition hearing for a Navajo leader accused of violating state livestock law has been delayed, The Farmington Daily-Times reports.

The hearing was scheduled to take place today but the paper said it was moved out of Shiprock, New Mexico, by a Navajo Nation prosecutor. The paper further cited sources who claimed Navajo Nation Supreme Court Justice Robert Yazzie will handle the matter.

The case involves Navajo council delegate J.C. Begay. Tribal officers arrested him with orders to extradite to New Mexico. He has not been charged under tribal law.
