State and federal investigators must check every single new voter registration in South Dakota in order to prevent the state's upcoming election from turning into another Florida fiasco, The Sioux Falls Argus Leaders says in an editorial today.

"Yes, that's a major task, just a couple weeks before the election," the paper concedes. "But if state and county officials join together, it can be done."

The paper also said political parties should stop paying people to register voters. The state Democratic Party paid an Indian worker to reach out to Native voters but irregularities in her work prompted her firing and the probe into the alleged fraud.
