FRIDAY, OCTOBER 18, 2002

Haskell Indian Nations University in Kansas is cutting back spending to "essential needs," The Lawrence Journal-World reports.

Haskell president Karen Swisher said the decision was made because Congress has failed to pass the Department of Interior spending bill. So the school has to operate under its 2002 budget amount.

The fiscal year 2003 budget for Haskell is $9.2 million.
