Mich. governor hosts tribal summit

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 29, 2002 Michigan Governor John Engler signed a government-to-government agreement with the state's 12 tribes on Monday. Engler hosted the second state-tribal summit. Representatives of all tribes attended. The agreement recognizes tribes as sovereigns and promises consultation on issues that affect them. A state-tribal forum will be set up to implement the accord. Get the Story:
