The Bureau of Indian Affairs plans to mediate a leadership dispute within the Kickapoo Tribe of Texas, a spokesperson said.

Last week, the majority of the tribe kicked out chairman Raul Garza and his associates, electing a new group of leaders. A federal judge on Tuesday said he wouldn't side with either faction and dissolved a restraining order he had placed on the tribal members.

A BIA spokesperson told The San Antonio Express-News that both sides appear to have accepted the bureau's offer to mediate.
