WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 2002 An NCAA panel's recommendations on the use of Indians as mascots is being opposed, The Grand Forks Herald reports. The NCAA's Minority Opportunities and Interests Committee wants schools to survey students, community members and tribes on Indian mascots. The issue could affect whether a school can host an NCAA tournament. But a North Dakota representative to the NCAA said NCAA management is questioning the suggestion. The critics supports self-study but not punishment for schools with mascots. Full consideration of the debate has been put off until early next year, the paper reports. Get the Story:
