WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 2002

Harvey Pitt, embattled chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission, resigned Tuesday night.

Pitt was frequently the target of Democrat scorn. But he recently drew Republican criticism for not revealing that an SEC appointee who would oversee accounting reforms oversaw a company facing accounting fraud lawsuits.
