Election day turnout on reservations in South Dakota Dakota were at record levels, according to news accounts.

On Pine Ridge, the turnout was 44.6 percent. At Rosebud, it was 51.8 percent while the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation saw a 56.7 turnout.

These are much higher than the historic turnout of 30 percent or lower on the Pine Ridge Reservation. Democrats launched an aggressive campaign to change that,] and the votes helped Sen. Tim Johnson (D-S.D.) win a tight re-election race.

An Indianz.Com analysis of reservations showed that Indian voters chose Johnson over challenger John Thune (R) by margins as great as 9-to-1.
