Election officials in South Dakota completed a canvass of votes in the state's close U.S. Senate race.

Sen. Tim Johnson (D-S.D.) was re-elected by 524 votes, four less than were reported following last week's election. Indian voters helped confirm his win.

His Republican challenger, Congressman John Thune, can still request a recount because the vote difference was so small.
