Clinic tackles Indian diabetes epidemic

The Oklahoma City Indian Clinic has a diabetes program that has from from 138 patients six years ago to than 1,000 participants today.

The Being Responsible American Indian Diabetics (BRAID) program teaches self-care of diabetes. It reports that 62 percent of patients have their blood sugar levels under control.

For its success, the program was awarded the sixth annual Excellence Award for an Agency, Organization or Community Group Program from the University of Oklahoma College of Public Health and College of Public Health Alumni Association.
