A mining company in northern New Mexico plans to expand its operation against the protests of tribal members.

Oglebay Norton Specialty Minerals owns a mica mine and a mica mill. The company has asked the state of New Mexico for permits to expand the mine but withdrew plans for the mill.

Picuris Pueblo opposes the development. Tribal members protested at both sites yesterday, The Albuquerque Journal reports.
