Obituary: Darden oldest Chitimatcha member

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 20, 2002 Lester Darden, the oldest member of the Chitimatcha Tribe of Louisiana died on Monday. He was 94. The secret to his age, friends said, was his diet, which included three beers a day. Tribal members revered Darden for his impressive knowledge of history. Candidates for office always sought his advice. The tribe owns a steakhouse, Mr. Lester's, that was named after Darden. Get the Story:
