A Washington Supreme Court candidate who was opposed by tribes won't concede defeat in one of the closest races in the state.

Jim Johnson is trailing Mary Fairhurst by 3,500 votes, The Seattle Times reported. There are 3,200 votes left to be counted.

Tribes in the state targeted Johnson for defeat, citing his record as a private attorney. Johnson fought tribal rights all the way to the Supreme Court, they said.
