NNN: 'Attack' on McCaleb decried

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 25, 2002 Charles Blackwell, the ambassador for the Chickasaw Nation of Oklahoma, said tribal member Neal McCaleb was doing a good job as head of the Bureau of Indian Affairs in a report by National Native News. Blackwell said an attorney for the Cobell trust fund lawsuit attacked McCaleb in The Washington Post. The attorney, Dennis Gingold, said: "It's unfortunate that we couldn't get someone to take a position as assistant secretary who was honorable and understood his obligations." In response, Blackwell said: "That's not called for. . . Whenever you attack [McCaleb], you attack Indians, all of us." Get the Story:
