DOI approves power plant near sacred site

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 27, 2002 The Department of Interior and the Department of Agriculture have given approval for a $120 million geothermal power plant near a sacred site in northern California. Tribes opposed the Calpine Corp. development for fear it will destroy Medicine Lake. But the Bush administration, reversing an earlier ruling on the issue, said the project can occur with some modifications aimed at limiting the impact. Get the Story:
