MONDAY, DECEMBER 2, 2002 Two Connecticut newspapers are urging action on different fronts to prevent the spread of Indian gaming in the state. The Norwich Bulletin in an editorial today says casino opponents need to lobby the federal government instead of trying to repeal a state law. "The recognition issue is not local, it's federal," the paper says. "Change, if needed, must be made in Washington, where all but the Connecticut congressional delegation and a few others support the existing federal recognition system." The New London Day in an editorial weighs in favor of taking the "Vegas Nights" law off the books. "How lovely that our legislators have awakened to the reality that has loomed before them for years," the paper writes. "Let's hope they aren't too late." Get the Story:
