FRIDAY, DECEMBER 6, 2002

The Muwekma Ohlone Tribe of California plans to sue the federal government to regain its status as a recognized tribe.

The tribe was previously acknowledged as the Pleasanton or Verona Band. But in 1927, the tribe was determined no longer to exist.

In September, Assistant Secretary Neal McCaleb issued a final determination against recognizing the tribe.
