A council member of a California tribe and two others have been indicted in federal court for allegedly embezzling tribal funds.

Curtis Anderson was reported to federal authorities for suspicion of theft by other tribal leaders of the Robinson Rancheria. He is accused of writing tens of thousands of dollars of checks during his reign as tribal chairman from 1997 to 1999.

Stanley Malicay, a former advisor to the tribe, and Ronald Peterson, a contractor for the tribe's casino, were indicted along with Anderson.
