MONDAY, DECEMBER 23, 2002 "A voice of reason and courage has joined that of Jeff Benedict. North Stonington Selectman and Connecticut Alliance Against Casino Expansion member Mac Turner has called for Congress to revisit the 1983 Settlement Act that it implemented to create the Mashantucket Pequots. Other politicians, notably our own Sen. Christopher Dodd among them, have said that they would propose no such action. Why not? Is the notion just unpopular, in a mob-mentality sort of way, on Capitol Hill? Will an investigation be embarrassing for certain congressional members? Is it because the tribe is composed of minorities? Is the tribe too wealthy and influential now? Has too much time passed?" Get the Story:
