THURSDAY, JANUARY 9, 2003

The Navajo Nation and mayors of border towns are signing an agreement to help combat alcoholism, The Albuquerque Journal reports.

The tribe and the towns will work together to establish a network of shelters in the towns. The project is modeled after two successful detoxification facilities.

Alcohol is banned on the reservation so many tribal members go to border towns to drink.
