A Navajo police department is shorthanded

The Navajo Nation has funded the Shiprock Police Department in New Mexico for 45 officers but only 32 are on staff.

The department is having a tough time attracting new recruits. Based on nationally accepted standards, there should be at least 75 officers for the 30,000 people in the service area.
