A Navajo police department is shorthanded

THURSDAY, JANUARY 9, 2003 The Navajo Nation has funded the Shiprock Police Department in New Mexico for 45 officers but only 32 are on staff. The department is having a tough time attracting new recruits. Based on nationally accepted standards, there should be at least 75 officers for the 30,000 people in the service area. Get the Story:
