State seeks police agreement with tribe

The state of Nebraska and the Omaha Tribe are pursuing an agreement to allow the tribe's police force to enforce traffic laws on non-Indians.

Non-Indians were complaining about a sobriety checkpoint the tribe set up last month in the town of Pender. Although Pender is within reservation boundaries, local officials believe the tribe has lost jurisdiction.
