The Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) disputed claims by the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska that the agency owes $200,000 in back rent.

The BIA has been leasing a building from the tribe for more than 20 years. A BIA spokesperson told The Lincoln Journal Star that the $62,00 rent was paid late last year but no additional funds are owed.

Contract negotiations are taking place next week. "It's not like we need (the BIA)," chairman John Blackhawk told the paper.

The Winnebago Tribe's economic development corporation, Ho-Chunk Inc., owns Indianz.Com and AllNative.Com.
