Six Republicans in the Senate said they oppose GOP efforts to open up the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil and gas development.

Republican leaders are considering inserting drilling provisions into the must-pass federal budget bill. The six Republicans in a letter said they wouldn't support the move, which would prevent Democrats from a filibuster.

Separate from the letter, an environmental group released a poll conducted of Republicans and Democrats. The group said the poll shows that most Americans are against ANWR development.
