Navajo chapter governments to receive sales receipts

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 5, 2003 A change in Navajo Nation policy will allow chapter governments to receive their share of a tribal-wide sales tax. The 3-percent sales tax has brought in $7.7 million since April 2002, The Farmington Daily-Times reported. But only chapters that were certified under a local governance law could receive a portion. Now, all chapters will receive 40 percent. The rest goes to the Navajo Nation central government. Get the Story:
