Navajo Supreme Court debates tribal jurisdiction

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 7, 2003 The Navajo Nation Supreme Court heard oral arguments on Thursday in a case testing the limits of tribal jurisdiction. Sixteen members of the Navajo and Zuni tribes filed suit in tribal court against Pfizer, a drug company. They claimed a diabetes drug they took, Rezulin, caused them harm. A lower Navajo court dismissed, saying the tribe lacked jurisdiction to hear the case. The plaintiffs appealed. Get the Story:
