WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 12, 2003 The New London Day comes out against a proposal to put toll booths on roads leading to Connecticut's two reservations. "State legislators continue to look under the couch cushions to find money to fix the budget mess," the paper says. "Count among the least constructive ideas the bid to charge cars $10 each, or some other fee, to get to or from either one of the two Indian casinos." Some state lawmaker say the plan will help generate needed revenue for the state. The paper says the tribes are already "exploited," the toll booths could make traffic "worse" and they could be illegal, "depending on how the federal government scrutinizes the issue."
