Chicago's Indian community undergoing change

Single and mixed-race American Indians number more than 20,000 in Chicago and more than 44,000 in the metro region, The Chicago Tribune reports.

But many lower-income Natives are moving out of the neighborhood considered the heart of the urban Indian community. Regentrification is cited as the major reason for the dispersal.

The American Indian Center in Chicago is one of the oldest in the United States.
