N.M. paper runs feature on Indian education

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 17, 2003 The Santa Fe New Mexican ran a 12-page special section on Indian education this past Sunday. Called "Paths to Proficiency: Indian Education at the Crossroads," the section's central theme is the dual challenge facing Indian students, educators and their parents: How to maintain tribal culture and excel in the mainstream world. The articles look at what schools on and off the reservation are doing to meet that challenge. Although most of the focus is on K-12 education, the paper includes stories of tribal members who went onto college and succeeded in their careers. Get the Story:
