Plans for the state of Utah to host a nuclear waste site are being put off in favor of continued opposition to the Skull Valley Goshute Tribe.

The tribe wants to store up to 44,000 tons of waste on its reservation. Some lawmakers, realizing they probably couldn't stop federal approval of the site, hatched an alternative, dubbed Plan B, to get the state in the game.

The tribe has partnered with eight private companies. Some members oppose the waste repository.
