THURSDAY, MARCH 6, 2003

The Minnesota Supreme Court on Wednesday rejected a petition to recognize tribal court orders and judgments.

The Minnesota Tribal Court Association was a backer of the initiative, which was heavily covered by The Native American Press / Ojibwe News. Publisher Bill Lawrence, a Red Lake Ojibwe tribal member, believes tribal courts aren't sophisticated enough.

A copy of the court's decision was not immediately available on the court's web site.
