Cherokee tribunal handles election disputes

THURSDAY, MARCH 13, 2003 The Cherokee Nation's Judicial Appeals Tribunal has been busy lately with election-related challenges. The tribunal just overturned a ruling that said a tribal councilor who lives in an RV couldn't run for office because the trailer was considered a temporary residence. Harold DeMoss was declared eligible for re-election. The tribunal today will hear an appeal involving Chief Chad Smith. Opponents say he is not a legal resident of the Cherokee Nation. Get the Story:
