Sixteen Indian leaders in Montana want to join a state lawsuit challenging attempts to redraw the state's legislative districts.

The group includes all seven Indian lawmakers and tribal council members from each of the state's seven federally-recognized tribes. They allege, along with state attorney general Mike McGrath, that a new law forcing the state to redraw the districts is unconstitutional.

The map includes seven majority-Indian districts. Republicans say it was drawn only to favor Democrats.
