Canada's Supreme Court will hear two cases this week affecting Metis rights.

Two Metis men who have won lower court rulings affirming their right to hunt free of provincial regulation go before the court today. The Ontario government, backed by Ottawa and seven provinces, say the men can't hunt without a license.

Tomorrow, the court will hear a related hunting case. A Metis man in Manitoba was convicted of hunting on Crown land.

Metis are not recognized as "Indian" under the federal Indian Act.
