Navajo Nation files injunction on water rights
Facebook Twitter Email
MONDAY, MARCH 17, 2003

The Navajo Nation has filed suit against the federal government to protect its water rights on the Colorado River.

The suit is not to claim water rights but to prevent Secretary of Interior Gale Norton from allocating water without representing the tribe's interests. A separate case claiming water rights is expected.

Several states are entangled in a dispute over use of the Colorado River.

The case is Navajo Nation v. DOI, No. 03-507. It was filed in U.S. District Court in Arizona.
