Although a Navajo Nation panel voted not to advance a water agreement, officials in the Four Corners region of New Mexico say the deal is not dead.

The officials said Navajo Nation officials are working behind the scenes to revive the San Juan Basin Recommended Water-Use Agreement. If approved, the tribe and local agreements would determine how water from the San Juan River is shared during a drought.
