Lakota woman: President Bush held my hand

THURSDAY, MARCH 27, 2003 Misty Daniels, a member of the Oglala Sioux Tribe of South Dakota, lost her husband Michael Daniels in the Persian Gulf War of 1991. She remembers meeting the elder President George Bush that summer. "He held my hand the whole time," Daniels told The Rapid City Journal. "He said, ‘I want to thank you for your sacrifice. America will forever be indebted to your husband.'" Daniels says she is offering her support particularly for young wives of those now in combat in Iraq. She was 20 when her husband died in a helicopter crash. Michael Daniels was also 20 at the time. Get the Story:
