Alaska tribes, environmentalists and federal agencies are criticizing a proposed state regulation that would allow a village corporation to use herbicide as part of a reforestation effort.

The state Environmental Conservation Department imposed conditions on the Klukwan Inc's use of herbicide. But opponents, like the Hydaburg Tribe, say it will harm subsistence resources and the environment.

In related Kluwan news, the corporation's Tlingit shareholders won't see the profits reaped in years past. The stock market has caused the corporation to lose millions, a board member said.
