Boston Globe magazine takes on gaming in Mass.

MONDAY, APRIL 7, 2003 The cover story of the Boston Globe Magazine this Sunday was "The Big Fix?" a look at whether gaming will be legalized in Massachusetts. The state's only federally-recognized tribe, the Gay Head Wampanoag, has sought gaming for at least a decade. But the tribe has been met with resistance. Until recently, that is, the magazine notes. Politicians in the state, like those elsewhere, are looking to gaming to patch up budget shortfalls, and the question of the day isn't whether gaming will be authorized but who will get a cut of it. "Where's mine?" The story points briefly to the advent of Indian gaming in nearby Connecticut, where the two largest casinos in the world are located. But other than a comment about the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act being open to interpretation, the article doesn't focus on the tribal aspect too much. Get the Story:
