Republicans in Arizona are criticizing Democratic governor Janet Napolitano for pushing to rename Squaw Peak after Lori Piestewa, the Hopi woman who was killed in action in Iraq.

Napolitano believes the "squaw" name is an embarrassment. But critics say she is politicizing Piestewa's death.

The head of the state's geographic board says there is a five-year waiting period before the name can be changed for a deceased person.

Piestewa was killed on March 23.
