Alaska Native man started organization as a bluff

MONDAY, APRIL 21, 2003 Ralph Perdue was recognized April 13 by the Alaska Legislature for his efforts to help Alaska Natives, The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports. Perdue co-founded the Fairbanks Native Association, the largest non-profit social service organization in Fairbanks. As he recalls it, creating the organization was a bluff -- he was at a meeting with Athabascan chiefs in the early 1960s when asked who he represented. He said the "Fairbanks Native Association" but it didn't exist at the time. So when he returned home, he helped to start it. Get the Story:
