"Like others, I penned my signature in the bright green condolence booklet with Lori Piestewa’s photo on it.

Staff at the Lincoln Indian Center assembled it, pages filled with signature blocks, poems and photos of the 23-year-old Army private killed in Iraq. The booklet — and a monetary collection — will be sent next week to the Piestewa family on behalf of the center.

It’s yet another gesture in a tremendous outpouring of support from communities around the country, a display of honor for the soldier woman from Arizona.

Call her a hero.

Call her a warrior.

Call her a mother.

But, please, don’t call this young Hopi woman a "squaw.""
