WEDNESDAY, MAY 7, 2003 Mitch Daniels plans to retire as director of the White House Office of Management and Budget within 30 days. Daniels was known for his tough attitude towards reducing federal spending. "They don't call him 'The Blade' for nothing," once said Deputy Interior Secretary J. Steven Griles.
