Wis. man guilty of stealing from tribe's museum

FRIDAY, MAY 9, 2003 A state jury found a former curator of the Wisconsin Historical Society guilty of stealing from the Lac du Flambeau tribal museum. David L. Wooley took a 12-inch bear clan carving from the George W. Brown Jr. Ojibwe Museum and Cultural Center. The item has not been recovered. Wooley was also convicted of selling $100,000 in Indian artifacts he stole from another museum. He will serve a 15-year sentence in that case, and three years additional for the Ojibwe case.
