Before the advent of Indian gaming, life was rough on the Seminole Tribe's reservations in Florida. Housing was scarce, poverty was rampant and there was no infrastructure to speak of.

But the tribe's casinos have helped provide money for education, cultural programs and other services. Tribal members also get a $3,000 per capita every month.

The tribe's Ahfachkee School gets $1.7 million annually from gaming profits. With Bureau of Indian Affairs alone, the school would only get half that amount.
