Oneida Nation members compare tribe to Hitler

Members of the Oneida Nation of New York who oppose the tribe's leadership are comparing their struggle to Jews under the reign of Hitler, The Syracuse Post Standard reports.

The members have challenged nation representative Ray Halbritter's policies. They say they are singled out for persecution, their benefits cut off and their homes targeted for destruction.

The tribe's chief prosecutor, Peter Carmen, criticized the members' characterization of the situation. "As somebody who is Jewish, I deeply resent that comparison to a situation where 6 million Jews were taken from their families and tortured and gassed," he said during a tribal court hearing yesterday, the paper reported.

The tribe wants to inspect the homes of the tribal dissidents, who refused to attend the hearing.
